“Bad Bunnies” and "Rats Gators Jaguars Drag Queens” are AI generated movies, selected by the 2024 Chicago AI Film Festival's inaugural festival, made by Nebula Pictures as thesis, marking the birth and development of generative AI video moviemaking technology in 2024. 

It is incredibly important to understand, less than a year prior, technology had not been developed to the degree to allow films to be made with AI. Since the creation of Nebula’s thesis, technology has already advanced exponentially toward resembling classically shot films more closely. 

In the way the 1910 black-and-white silent film “In Old California” was the first film shot in Hollywood; “Bad Bunnies” and “Rats Gators Jaguars Drag Queens” are two of the first, trail blazing AI generated films made in 2024, during the birth of generative AI. 

The perfection in the films’ AI imperfections one day may be appreciated as a “Look”, in the way damaged celluloid has become its own vintage aesthetic in film, and the sounds of scratched vinyl records evoke nostalgia in digital sound tracks.
